iPad Contest Results and the lessons learned

It amazing to think that I have spent so much time on my recent quest to win an iPad. Especially seeing that the contest was completely random. It does not really matter how many entries one had, it all came down to luck and probably a little mathematical algorithm. Too complicated for my pea sized brain. We all use the internet daily, and probably give little thought to how it truly all connects. It just does, it’s magic.

Now why the iPad? Because of it’s unlimited uses; well, at least in my head. The reality is that I have no idea why I took to the contest with the passion and enthusiasm that I did…I only know that it was a powerful force inside of me and I had to follow my desires. Funny, I’ve never done that before.

Why am I writing about my involvement with a contest that has ended, you may ask?

Well, it was not the contest that inspired me to write this article, but the results of what came from the event. In looking back, I realize that I was completely focused on a goal and taking daily action. Did I win an iPad? I will get to that later. Taking consistent daily action has gave me the opportunity to go from #34 to #5 in the contest rankings. No, this is not something that is earth shattering, it was just me recognizing that I had tracked my efforts and saw the results of my efforts on the contest website.

Now that is the crazy part, but what it also involved was a dedication to consistent learning. During the contest, I saw another contestant zoom past me and jump more than 600 entries ahead of me. My thought was how in the heck did he do that? I didn’t know, but I knew I wanted to find out. Will I share his method? Of course, I will…and I will do it for free. Why would I do this for free you might ask? Because knowledge is only powerful when put into action and so many obtain knowledge and then never use it; I know this to be a personal truth.

You see, the last six months have been a meandering journey for me. I took a much needed sabbatical (that is leave of absence) from my career as a jet pilot to pursue other streams of income. No joke. As glamorous as it might sound, being a pilot is a tough lifestyle. The smaller the plane, the smaller the paycheck. But that is not the purpose of this article.

In my initial exploration of being an online marketer; even though I did not really know what the term meant, I discovered Frank Kern and thought he was just too fun. While I liked his cool videos, I felt that I was too much of a newbie to understand it all. Soon after, I found another less expensive system that a friend was already using, so I took him up on his offer to try it out. Happy with my decision and the simplicity of the system with all the support available, I was up and running. Gaining knowledge on a daily basis.

Over the last six months, I have met so many people using the same system. The training I received is excellent and geared towards the beginner, and once you’ve mastered beginner marketing; online courses and webinars are available to take you through mastery. Online domination, then take it offline! Does this sound familiar? Perhaps you’ve heard it from a friend, or two. I am excited about the possibilities, not writing about the results of my efforts over the last six months. No big paycheck, no marketing guru status, no facebook business. Just me and my mac writing this article at 5 a.m.

As for the contest, I was not the winner. I realized that I was always focused on the contest and not the prize. My journey of taking action daily was the true value. In looking back, I was taking massive action and seeing the results on the contest website. Every time I saw my numbers climb, I would get more excited and that spurred me on to enthusiastically continue my quest. Again, and again, and again.

In life we always hear about the vicious circle that leads to failure. What I learned is that you can also have a Circle of Success. Massive efforts that lead to immediate results that continue to ignite the fuel that runs through the engine of an Internet newbie’s heart, or that of an Olympic athlete. Success does not come with one try. It is a journey of many steps, so you cannot stop until you reach your goal.

The keys to the Circle of Success are: 1. Focus on what you want and are seeking. 2. Have a plan on how to get there. 3. Take action daily. 4. Review your results. 5. Adjust your course, as needed. 6. Repeat daily.

Simple Steps to Success. Knowledge is power, but only when one takes action. It’s time to break the lock and free the knowledge stored inside of you. Take action today. If you feel inspired, go to my blog for more information on how you can make positive changes in your business and life.

5 Ways to Make Money Online

So many ways, and yet, only you can decide how you want to do it!  Utilize your skills and talents to find the perfect one that not only will bring you success, but fulfillment as well.

5. Sell stuff on sites like ebay and Craigs List.
The average person has over $1,500 in junk in their home that they could sell on any given day.  Now that is a lot of junk, but more so, it is a nice chunk of change.  Start looking into ebay auctions, or the fun of listing things for free on Craigs List.

4. Offer a service.
What talents do you possess that can be turned into cash?  Graphic Design?  Web Design?  How about editorial skills?  There are several sites that cater to everything from freelancers to virtual assistants.  Why not bill your time from home?  MLM and Network Marketing are also a way to offer a product.

3. Find a product.
So many products are available through marketplace sites like Clickbank.  Thousands of products are available to sell.  All you need to do is find one that you like and after a simple account set up, it is yours to offer.  Good affiliate marketers are hot commodities.  MLM and Network Marketing are also a way to offer a product.

2. Create a product.
If you have a creative side, you can create a product that you can market online, but also offer through marketplace sites like Clickbank.  Multiple distribution channels are desirable.

1. Write an eBook.
Lastly, if you have skills on the keyboard, the written (and spoken) word are always in need.  Share your thoughts, interview successful and interesting people and then write about it.  Ebooks are a portable and often, very viral.

These are just a few ideas on ways to make money online.  Do you have any ideas to add?  I’d love to read them in the comments.

Life is about being ABLE: Always Be Learning Everything!

When I graduated from High School, I took time off before college. When I graduated from college, I went straight into my new career. No time off, from work…but, plenty of time off from learning. No more pencils, no more books, no more teachers…Oh, I don’t even remember the words.
